These units consist of a two piece heavy gauge steel housing which allows the ball bearing initial self-alignment. We have supplied a number of our customers with pillow block housings for ball bearing units made by MRC-Marlin-Rockwell, Fafnir, Sealmaster, SKF, New Departure, etc. and we use these pressed steel stampings with our bearing assemblies. The major ball bearing companies furnish housings in a light gauge steel because most of their applications are for light and steady loads.
These companies recommend that it be used only where the load is steady!
HOWEVER - In actual practice many times the machine is stopped suddenly, and a much heavier load is exerted on the housing. Then the light housing is destroyed, causing an extended delay and cost in getting the machine back into operation.
One of our customers had the very same experience as outlined above, and requested that we design a heavier housing for these ball bearing units.Since then a number of companies have purchased these housing sets and find they corrected the above problem PLUS a savings in the cost of the units
The housings listed below are standard and are dimensionally the same as supplied by the leading ball bearing manufacturers. These parts are plated with Zinc and dipped in clear chromate to resist corrosion. |
